An entry level laborer position responsible for the maintenance of Water Treatment Plant grounds and remote sites; and sludge removal process.

Example Of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by operational necessity.

  • Mowing, weed eating, edging, and trimming hedges and trees.
  • Maintain equipment used for ground maintenance, ie: washing, lubricating, changes blades.
  • Operation of sludge drawing and drying process.
  • Provides assistance in repair of water & chemical feed lines at the Water Plant.
  • Operation of backhoe loader, dump truck, tractor and bush-hog with limited supervision.
  • Provides after hours coverage of emergency pager on rotating basis.
  • Performs troubleshooting and repair of plant equipment.
  • Performs minor welding tasks.

  • Knowledge of the equipment and materials used for lawn care and landscape maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the use of hand tools and painting equipment, including power equipment.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance practices as they relate to the upkeep of buildings and structures.
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials necessary to the upkeep of buildings and structures.
  • Knowledge of the materials and chemicals used to control pests in buildings.
  • Knowledge of the good safety practices in carrying out the duties of this position.
  • Skill in the use of landscaping and lawn care equipment.
  • Skill in doing mechanical and painting repair. Skill in the use of the tools, equipment, and materials necessary to the upkeep of buildings and structures.
  • Able to identify the work that needs to be done and the tools to carry out the tasks.
  • Able to do primarily outside laboring work.
  • Able to operate equipment that is potentially hazardous.
  • Able to operate light vehicles and equipment.


  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate highly desirable, but not required. Must be able to read and write
  • Valid Florida driver’s license required at time of employment.
  • Must acquire Class “B” CDL within six months of date of hire.
